Why Politics Matter

Officers Need Help (from you)!!! For most of us, including those in law enforcement, politics is a dirty word and not something we primarily think of as having any bearing on our profession directly. However, the longer those of us in this profession, do the job, we learn that simply cannot be further from the truth. That’s why, it important that you, the general public know, the decisions you make in the voting booth, significantly impact our duties, our long term effectiveness and the communit...

Starr Thompson - "A man for the ages and an unlikely friendship" - Part 2 of 2

As you know, last month we featured several stories on national police week.  From that, we have one special story which relates to the gentleman we featured prior, Starr Thompson.  In case you missed it, Starr Thompson is a 95 yr old widowed, WWII veteran, who by mere chance encounter, befriended a 7 year old boy named Chase and his dad, Dan Borgstrom one day, while at lunch. Dan and Starr immediately made a connection and have become dear friends ever since; meeting each week for lun...

Starr Thompson - "A man for the ages and an unlikely friendship" - Part 1 of 2

On a cold winter day, in Tuscaloosa Alabama, just weeks before Christmas 1923, 21 year old Officer Kenneth Thompson was working patrol, when he spotted a potential stolen vehicle near the local high school.  As he approached the vehicle to investigate, he observed 2 subjects sitting inside the vehicle. It is believed that as he began speaking to them, he became more suspicious of their activity, and asked them to turn off the vehicle's engine. The driver failed to do so, and as Thompson rea...
